About DISH

DISH (Data and Insights Southland Hub) is a centralised platform created to collect, process, and present data relevant to the Murihiku Southland region.

It serves as a trusted, single source of truth, connecting users to key datasets and offering a comprehensive view of the region’s economy, environment, and other vital components.

The idea for DISH originated from the Beyond 2025 Regional Long-Term Plan, which highlighted the need for accurate, region-specific data to drive informed decision-making. Recognising this, the region’s councils and Great South partnered with government entities, Community Trust South and DataSing to develop a solution that would address these challenges and lay the foundation for smarter, data-driven policies and strategies.

The benefits of DISH are far-reaching. By streamlining data into one accessible hub, DISH empowers local councils, businesses, and communities to make informed decisions that support long-term sustainability and growth. It also enhances transparency and consistency in data use, ensuring that the information is accurate, up-to-date, and relevant. Whether for policy development, funding allocation, or strategic planning, DISH offers the insights needed to shape a stronger future for Murihiku Southland.

Great South wishes to acknowledge its’ key partners, the project’s funders and organisations which have provide data (including Invercargill Airport Limited; South Catlins Charitable Trust; Te Hikoi Visitor Centre and Milford Sound Tourism).

DISH will be continually added to and improved. To provide feedback or find out more about DISH, please contact Great South.
